A Brief History of Artificial Flowers

According to archaeologists, humans have been copying vegetation since ancient times. As an example of this belief, copies of flowers have been found in ancient caves. Ancient Egyptians also made copies of flowers and leaves with thin horns.

It is believed that artificial flowers were first developed in China 1500 years ago. The Chinese first made artificial flowers from silk. At that time, ladies of the imperial court ordered silk flowers to be worn in their hair. Later, this trend spread to wealthy individuals outside the palace and later to Japan and Korea when new trade routes opened. The use of artificial flowers gained popularity in these countries and eventually spread from eastern to western societies.

Over time, other cultures and societies have made their own artificial flowers. Starting from the 12th century, Italian merchants began to produce artificial flowers using silkworm cocoons. As a result, silk flowers became extremely popular. In the 1300s in France, they improved the craft by using better quality silk, thus creating more realistic-looking flowers. In the 15th century, French-made false flowers were considered the best.

In the 1800s, the French introduced the trade to England, and in turn, the British took the craft of silk flower production to America, where it became a major industry and extremely popular. The silk flower business slowed down for a few hundred years until the Victorian Era dawned in the late 19th century. During the Victorian era, silk flower bouquets and lavish floral arrangements of both fresh flowers were extremely popular. Flowers were an important part of everyone's life, and the language of flowers allowed people to send messages to each other simply by sending a bouquet. Most artificial flowers were made from silk, but other materials such as velvet, muslin, satin, crepe, cambric and tulle were also used to make them.

Artificial flowers took on new forms in the 1900s. New materials have been introduced, such as nylon, cotton, satin and paper, all of which are becoming increasingly popular. Therefore the industry was no longer dependent on silk.

Most of the world's silk flowers are made in Asia, in China's Guangdong Province. New York and Paris still have a relatively small industry in the production of artificial flowers. Great attention to detail is given to ensure the flowers are close to nature and botanically correct, right down to the details of the stamens, petals and calyx.

Artificial flowers have come a long way since their origins 1,500 years ago. Our luxurious artificial flowers, which we have carefully selected as Çinpa, will change the aura of the environment with their beauty and natural lively appearance.
